Statement on Respectful Environment

Departmental Statement on Harassment, Human Rights, and Respectful Environment

The History Department of the University of British Columbia is committed to providing its students, staff, and faculty with the best possible environment for working and learning. To achieve this goal, we seek to encourage a free exchange of ideas and information within a framework of inclusiveness and respect. We believe that all UBC students, staff members, and faculty share responsibility for promoting an environment characterized by mutually respectful dialogue and behaviour. The History Department does not condone discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment, of any kind. Concerns and complaints should be brought to the Head of the Department or the the The Office of the Ombudsperson for Students. The Department welcomes suggestions which will help to maintain a collegial, scholarly environment which promotes freedom of inquiry and expression.
